Our Philosophy

Aristotle

Our principles and values

First off let's say the unsayable: We're human, we're not perfect and we don't always get it right.

We do however have some core princples and values that we aspire to and try to be guided by in our ongoing quest to become better at what we do.

Core Principles

  • Putting Business First (and technology second)
  • Seeking to Understand
  • Being Challenging
  • Responding to Feedback
  • Thinking Win-Win
  • Clear Communication
  • Driving Innovation
  • Authenticity

Putting Business First

Keeping an eye on what's important
The danger with internet technology projects is to get too caught up in the details of the technology itself and lose sight of the original business objectives and intentions.

We always try to keep a clear focus on the business objectives and develop our solutions around this as opposed to getting carried away with "technology for technology's sake".

Seeking to Understand

It's simple. You've got a problem.
Our solutions are always designed to solve a specific business problem. Therefore we will always seek to explore, define, and fully understand this problem as the first step in our process. By the time we're finished you'll most likely be fed up with our questions(!) but if we go into our design and development with a thorough understanding of your problem and what you are trying to achieve, the better suited our resulting solution will be.

Being Challenging

Are you ready to be challenged?
We are not afraid of asking challenging questions! We've talked above about clarity of understanding but there are also a lot of common misconceptions incorrect assumptions related to internet technology and we will continually challenge and question both you and ourselves during the course of our work together to ensure that we all feel like we're on the right track.

Responding to Feedback

A plane is off course 90% of the time
When a plane flies from London to New York, it is off course at least 90% of the time. The reason it arrives on time and at the correct destination is due to continuous course correction, responding to feedback from the navigation systems. We constantly check that our current course of action is in-line with our shared objectives and desired outcomes. In a wider sense we always listen carefully and respond to feedback from our clients so if you have something you want to tell us - "we're all ears"!

Thinking Win-Win

Ok, so we stole this one off Stephen Covey...
This is our favourite principle. In a highly competitive business environment, trying to move from the mindset of win-loose to win-win is challenging, but absolutely right.

In the big scheme of things, we're all "in this" together. We don't see our clients as "sources of revenue". In fact we don't even see our clients as "clients". Instead we have a number of "business partners" with whom we work and collaborate with, towards creating progress and success for all involved.

Clear Communication

"What the heck is a distributed XML-based architechture?"
We are technologists at heart, but we are technologists that can communicate in the language of business rather than ones and zeros! We always try keep the message clear in our communications and keep the jargon and acronyms to a minimum!

Driving Innovation

Not just "new technology" but "new ways of doing things"
By "Innovation" we are referring (to a certain extent) to adopting and adapting new technologies and using existing technologies in new and innovative ways; but it's more than that. It's not all about the technology and we try to drive innovation in other areas too such as business processes and practices and the way we do business in general (for example, we have more "partners" than "clients").

Authenticity

Being open, honest and transparent
We strive for honesty and transparency across the board. If we're not the right people for the job, we'll tell you. If we don't think you've put enough thought into what you're asking us to do, we'll tell you! If there is a cheaper alternative that perhaps won't be as profitable for us, we'll still tell you!

We're aware we've set ourselves some high standards but we can rely on our clients and partners to call us on these when we fall short!
